The cancellation of NCAA March Madness had the bracketologist in all of us itching for something to fill out and some sort of competitive anything to follow. We decided that it’s time we find out who our fan favorite label character is by pitting them against each other in a 16 “team” popularity contest.
The brackets went live last Thursday via social media and closed down last night at midnight. Whoever picks the outcome perfectly will be showered in beer (figuratively). Today marks the first day of fan voting to determine who moves on. The entire tournament ends on April 9th and the CHAMP will be announced on the 10th.
There are a number of interesting match ups and after filing out some brackets internally we ended up in heated arguments over some of the selections.
Some highlights of the first round are the “Tag Team” match between the moon lit skinny dippers, the Night Swim couple, and WHAT IS THIS? A surprise entry from the long retired couple featured on Wheat Stroke?!?!?! This was a tough one. Night Swim is one of our flagships. Our bread winners. BUT, Wheat Stroke won some of us over with nostalgia.
The 7th Street Chicken and Pax Odeon matchup was a rough one too. The chicken is a Ybor icon. How can we vote against our home town mascot? But Pax has that rich storyline. Hyperbolic, some of you may remember, was an unknown space traveler in search of Coppertail based on an astrological hunch. We later learned the traveler’s real name was Pax Odeon and it may have been hinted that not only was he traveling through space, he was time traveling … or so he says. How do you choose?!
Lastly we pinned Kiko “The Great Fisherman” Santiago vs our favorite REAL LIFE fisherman, Captain Jack. Jack is the only actual human being in this bracket but it was still tough. (Sorry Jack and we will see you in November for Stone Crab)
